Catching Up

It's months like these that I think to myself  "This teaching gig is really great!" Now around Feb/March I sing a different song.  :)

I haven't been blogging much because I've been enjoying summer.  It's hard to believe sickening that tomorrow starts July.  Slow. Down. Time.

The great bathroom remodel of 2011 is still in progress.  My poor husband is working nights right now (12 hour shifts) so there hasn't been a ton of noticeable progress.  Remember the last stripped picture?

It looks pretty....well, um....stripped.  I found out that it can get more stripped.

I heard something about it would be easier to fill the sheet rock like this...go figure.

June is a big birthday month for our family.  My brother, Renee, and my husband all share the same birthday (the 18th).  Michael's niece and nephew are also June kiddos, and my dear sist Jen.  I only managed to get one birthday photo....

I've filled some time working on some school projects.  It's kind of like a hobby for me.  I'm a dork, I know.  I created a new chart for behavior tracking next year.  Each kid will have a clothes pin and start off on "Ready to Learn" each day.  I like it because they can also move their pins up for good behavior.

I'm going to do a safari/explorers theme in my class next year.  So I  made a giraffe neck thingy to record the kids fluency.  This is just part of it.  It will go from floor to ceiling.  While laying it out for a picture I realized I need to figure out some way to better incorporate the head.  The white paper says 0-40 words per minute and etc.  The kids will move up the neck during the year.  I know that probably doesn't make sense but that's the best that I can explain it.  I did this last year however I just used multi-colored rectangles instead of the giraffe neck.

My last creation is a second grade banner.  I'll probably still trim the ribbon some so that it's easier to read.

Our table doesn't make the best backdrop.  We have plans for a new dining room table to join our lil family in the near future.

That's it for June.
July promises to be a busy month with the fourth, vacation, campmeeting, VBS, and setting up my class room.  I'm sure I'll have lots to blog about.

Yee-haw!

A couple of weeks ago I was able to organize a baby shower for my friend through church. I had the best time getting it altogether.  I went with a cowboy theme.

My Center pieces were siiiiimple.  A mason jar, pinto beans, candle, and raffia.  Easy-peasy!

I used this table for one of the games.  My game prizes were the cookie-in-a-jar.  I used this recipe from bakerella.  They turned out really cute.  I wish I had took a close up.

My banner...made with my cricut...and advice from Carly    :)

I sweet-talked my mom into making the cake.  See the cow spots and rope...I was all over that!

A lantern in the middle of the food table.  Along with catus sticks (pretzels in white chocolated tinted green).  The lantern and bananda pails came from Hobby Lobby.

Backdrop for the devotational and gift opening.

Another view of the cake, along with trail mix, and wagon wheels.

Vegetable Pizza.  Yummy, but no creative cowboy name.

Cheese dip

Cow Chips

For one game, three people drew a picture of baby on a wanted posted.  The mom to be judged the best picture.

For a second game, everyone had two minutes to write down a boys name for each letter of the alphabet.  Since the parents aren't telling the name yet this worked out well.
Heres a copy of that game.

Also here's a copy of my food labels.  My formatting on word was a little off but I just went with it.  :)

How did I teach before Blogs?

Last week in our reading series our phonic skill was words with silent letters.  So I totally snatched this idea from I{Heart} Teaching and whipped out the ole cricut!  Only my gnomes didn't turn out quite as gnomey as hers...my kids still loved it and totally got it.

My board looks totally grimy...yuck!

Snowflake Coasters (Cricut Project No. 2)

Recently I added a section in the side bar of my blog called my someday list.  It's crafts or projects that I'd like to do "someday".  Here is the first completed project!  The idea came from Just a Girl.  She made her coasters for a teacher gift.
     My needed materials:
  • My Cricut
  • Winter Lace Cartilage (I got really cheap off of ebay)
  • Red Felt
  • White tiles from Lowes
  • Vinyl (I wanted red but settled for this slightly darker color)
  • Transfer Paper (a small 6 inch square lasted for the whole project
  • Hot Glue Gun

First I traced the tiles onto red felt and cut them out.

Next I hot glued the felt onto the back of the tiles.  Just a girl used cork instead of felt.

Next I used the winter lace cartilage and  my cricut to cut out 8 different snowflake patterns.

Finally using the transfer paper I placed the images onto the tiles.

That's it...project complete.

O Taste and See...Cricut Project 1

For Christmas I got a Cricut (mine is actually a pretty blue color, and didn't cost that much!).  As soon as I knew that I was getting one, I knew what my first project would be.  I think I've mention on my blog before that my plan is to have scripture verses displayed in every room of the house.  I decided to start with the kitchen and this verse:

O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him.
                                   Psalm 34:8

I wanted the verse to scroll around the top of my cabinets.   I used black vinyl and the storybook font cartilage.  The chandelier in the dining room (which joins the kitchen) is black so I plan on using black accents in these two rooms. The end results....

By the way, I took these pictures completely in the manual mode on my camera. :)
